The pilot on this great performance flight was Cap. César Brito no less than the TAP Airbus A310 fleet last Chief Pilot...this awesome pilot have 4.000 hours on the A310 and TAP wanted to pay the best tribute for almost 20 years of service in TAP without an accident. The airplane involved was CS-TEI and the co-pilot of that flight was Vitor Pereira. Has you know, from November on TAP will start to receive 5 brand new A330-200 fresh from the factory.
This incredible performance shows the great pilots TAP have during all these years, just to remind you in early 60's the famous Capt. Marcelino passed UNDER Tagus bridge with a Boeing 707!!!

UPDATED INFO: I spoke with an A310 TAP pilot. Following are FACTS, NOT RUMORS:
1. Capt. César Brito is still flying, because he did in the airshow EXACTLY what was planned and trained to do. That was not a stupid idea executed in a moment, it took weeks of preparation.
2. Brito knew perfectly how Evora airfield is. He's playing with an optical effect; the other side's ground has a slightly downward form.
3. Co-pilot was another A310 commander, and during the show he was focused in altitude to continuously report to César.
4. Plane passed a complete overhaul just before this airshow, so the risk of failures was minimum.
5. Plane continued flying with passengers until retired soon, but after a reccommended inspection by Airbus officials.

To say a bit about how I recorded this video, I was in the organisation team in the Copa Triangular de Vuelo Acrobático at Portugal Airshow, so I was able to record this really close to it.
First passes are recorded very close to the runway; the jet blast hit me plenty!
The last one is recorded from CTVA temporary control tower in Evora. That A310 was really great!!!

Summary: The plane was scheduled to perform a series of fly-bys at an air show. The plane was to descend to 100 ft. altitude with landing gear and flaps extended. The automatic go-around protection was inhibited for the maneuver. During the maneuver, the plane descended thru 100 ft. to an altitude of 30 feet and hit trees at the end of the runway. The aircraft was totally destroyed by the successive impacts and violent fire which followed. The pilot allowed the aircraft to descend through 100 ft. at slow speed and maximum angle of attack and was late in applying go-around power. Unfamiliarity of the crew with the landing field and lack of planning for the flyby.

Le 1er mars, la compagnie aérienne allemande Lufthansa a annoncé que ses pilotes avaient évité un accident à l'aéroport de Hambourg, où un avion qui transportait 131 passagers a été dangereusement ballotté à l'atterrissage par des vents contraires.
Une vidéo amateur diffusée en boucle par la télévision allemande montre l'Airbus A320 secoué par le vent et par de fortes pluies à son atterrissage samedi à l'aéroport de Fuhlsbüttel, près de Hambourg (Nord).
L'avion effectue son approche à un angle inhabituel puis dévie fortement avant de se poser, l'une de ses ailes touchant le sol. Les pilotes ont évité la catastrophe en redécollant immédiatement.

Le pilote qui tenait les commandes était une co-pilote de 24 ans. La compagnie aérienne n'a pas souhaité révéler le nom de la jeune femme. Aux questions posées de savoir pourquoi le commandant de bord, Oliver A., 39 ans, beaucoup plus expérimenté, avait laissé un atterrissage de ce type à sa co-pilote, la compagnie a déclaré que cette inversion des rôles n'est pas interdite par la règlementation et reste à la discrétion exclusive du pilote-commandant de bord.

| A380 Airbus Crosswind Landing Flight Test - 67 sec
Icelandic TV station video (language is Icelandic) during Airbus A380 crosswind landing certification tests in Keflavik with 40 to 50 knot crosswinds. Technique is to fly crabbed down to flare height then "kick" (gently) the rudder to align the nose. Some crab at touchdown is acceptable and will be cancelled as the main gear also align the bird with the runway. Sounds easy dosn't it? Notice the flight control laws only allow the lower rudder until the aircraft is on the ground, then both upper and lower rudders are controlled by the autopilot during AutoLand operations or by the rudder pedals. This logic helps prevent unwanted roll from the upper rudder due to its placement being so far away from the longitudinal axis of the aircraft.

Australias flagship airline, Qantas, has received the first of 20 Airbus A380s on order, at a ceremony in Toulouse, France. The Rolls-Royce powered aircraft was handed over to Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Dixon and Qantas CEO-Designate, Alan Joyce by Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO and John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers.
Geoff Dixon said: When we ordered our A380 in 2000, we said that in addition to giving us the opportunity to reinvent our product, this revolutionary new aircraft offered capacity and operating savings, as well as environmental improvements. Everything we have seen since our initial order has reinforced this view.
Qantas A380 cabin was created by internationally renowned designer Marc Newson. Typically the A380 seats 525 passengers in three-classes, however Qantas cabin is extra spacious with 450 seats (14 First, 72 Business, 32 Premium Economy and 332 Economy).
The A380 sets the standards for the 21st century, said Tom Enders. More than 380 patents on board underline the aircrafts leadership in eco-efficiency and innovation and will allow Qantas to continue to grow whilst reducing its impact on the environment. We appreciate Australias iconic airline sharing the A380 vision with us from the very beginning.
Qantas was the first customer to conclude the signing of a contract for the A380. In November 2000, it ordered 12 A380s, marking the first time in the airlines long history it had ordered Airbus aircraft. Qantas later increased its order for A380s to 20, and is now the second largest customer for the worlds most modern aircraft.
The four Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines will each deliver up to 72,000 lbs of thrust, contributing to the aircrafts overall fuel efficiency of less than three litres of fuel per passenger per 100 kilometres.
Rolls-Royce Chairman Simon Robertson said: We appreciate the opportunity once again to be an integral player in shaping the future success of Qantas, Australias iconic carrier and one of the worlds leading airlines. This occasion marks another milestone for the Trent 900, the market leading engine for the A380.
The aircrafts efficiency and advanced technologies result in higher operational flexibility and outstanding economics, with a range of more than 15,000 km and seat-mile costs 20 per cent lower than its closest competitor. The A380 also provides vital extra passenger capacity without increasing the number of flights.
Qantas A380 will stop-over in Singapore before arriving in Sydney on September 21st. Qantas first commercial A380 services will be launched on October 20th from Melbourne to Los Angeles, and on October 24th from Sydney to Los Angeles. Later Qantas will also fly the A380 to Singapore and London. Currently the Qantas group, including low-cost subsidiary Jetstar, has ordered a total of 110 aircraft directly from Airbus.
