Breaking news, The Associated Press is reporting that the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has disrupted an alleged plot to assassinate Barack Obama.
The Democratic Party's nominee for President is leading in many polls and is expected to win the White House on Nov. 4.
AP reports that court records, unsealed Monday, point to a plan by two neo-Nazi skinheads to shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree.

Agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target an unnamed but predominantly African-American high school.
Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said the two men planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.
Reuters reports that the two men "wanted to go to a place where they could shoot as many non-Caucasian as they could," according to anonymous quote from an official source.
It's not the first time authorities have broken up a group intent on assassinating Mr. Obama. Three Denver-area men were arrested on the eve of the August, 2008, Democratic nominating convention in Colorado. The men were said to have a plan "more aspirational than operational." "We don't know if this was a serious plot or some methamphetamine-induced racist babbling or what," said Brian Jenkins, senior adviser on counterterrorism with the Rand Corporation.
Arkansas television station KAIT has this report on the more recent plot, in which it names the suspects:
ATF Arrests Arkansas, Tennessee Men in Plot to Kill Obama
Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tennessee and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena were charged in a federal complaint last Friday of illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a federal firearms licensee, and making threats against a major candidate for the Office of President.
According to the complaint, Cowart and Schlesselman met via the Internet through a mutual friend last month, with both men claiming to have very strong beliefs regarding "White Power" and "Skinhead" philosophies.
On October 20, 2008, Cowart allegedly travelled from Tennessee to Arkansas to pick up Schlesselman in order to carry out their plan.
Officials alleged Cowart and Schlesselman stated that they would be willing to die during their attempt.
The pair was arrested on October 22, 2008 by the Crockett County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department.
Cowart and Schlesselman appeared in court Monday, and are scheduled to appear again at a detention hearing on October 30th.
Circling back to the 14/88 stuff, Wikipedia and Urban Dictionary seem to agree that 14/88 has significance to white supremacists in the following ways:
"14" representing 14 words written by David Lane (founding member of the white nationalist group "The Order"), "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."
That slogan was apparently inspired by a statement, 88 words in length, quoted from Volume 1, Chapter 8 of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf:
What we must fight for is to safeguard the existence and reproduction of our race and our people, the sustenance of our children and the purity of our blood, the freedom and independence of the fatherland, so that our people may mature for the fulfillment of the mission allotted it by the creator of the universe. Every thought and every idea, every doctrine and all knowledge, must serve this purpose. And everything must be examined from this point of view and used or rejected according to its utility.
It can be combined with 88, as in 14/88 or 1488. The 8s stand for the eighth letter of the alphabet (H), with HH standing for Heil Hitler. 88 can also stand for the book 88 Precepts by David Lane.

Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said Monday.
In all, the two men whom officials describe as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people _ 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.
The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, "shooting at him from the windows," the court documents show.
"Both individuals stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt," the court complaint states. "Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt."
An Obama spokeswoman traveling with the senator in Pennsylvania had no immediate comment.
Sheriffs' deputies in Crockett County, Tenn., arrested the two suspects _ Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark. _ Oct. 22 on unspecified charges. "Once we arrested the defendants and suspected they had violated federal law, we immediately contacted federal authorities," said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce.
The two were charged by federal authorities Monday with possessing an unregistered firearm, conspiring to steal firearms from a federally licensed gun dealer, and threatening a candidate for president.
Cowart and Schlesselman are being held without bond. Agents seized a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols from the men when they were arrested. Authorities alleged the two men were preparing to break into a gun shop to steal more.

Two Mid-South men with strong white-supremacy beliefs are in federal custody after planning to go on a bizarre state-to-state killing spree, targeting blacks and ending with the assassination of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said today.
Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., near Jackson, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena, Ark., hatched their violent plan after they met on the Internet last month and discussed their shared interest in White Power and Skinhead philosophies.
The individuals began discussing going on a killing spree that included killing 88 people and beheading 14 African Americans, according to an affidavit filed by Special Agent Brian Weaks of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The numbers 88 and 14 have special significance within the White Power movement.
The two men had accumulated a sawed-off shotgun, pistols and a .308-caliber rifle and planned to attack an unnamed, predominantly black school and ultimately end with a daring attack on Obama.
Schlesselman states that they planned to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama, shooting at him from the windows, according to the affidavit. Both individuals stated they would dress in all-white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt. Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt. sic
An Obama spokeswoman traveling with the senator in Pennsylvania had no immediate comment.
Cowart and Schlesselman, who were arrested Wednesday in Crockett County, made initial appearances Monday in federal court in Memphis.
They remain in custody and have a detention hearing Thursday when a judge will determine whether a bond should be set.
The allegations set forth in this Criminal Complaint are serious and will be treated as such, said Lawrence J. Laurenzi, acting U.S. Atty. for the Western District of Tennessee.
According to federal authorities, Cowart and Schlesselman planned to travel state to state to finance their killing spree with home invasions and to stockpile weapons by robbing federally licensed gun dealers.
Last Tuesday, armed with knives and handguns, they targeted a home in Bells just northwest of Jackson, but aborted the robbery plan when they encountered a dog in the backyard and two vehicles next to the house.
Later they went to a Wal-Mart in Brownsville where they bought food, nylon rope and two ski masks to use in their next home-invasion attempt or gun-store robbery, authorities said.
While in that area early Wednesday, Cowart used a .22-caliber pistol to shoot out a window at Beech Grove Church of Christ as he drove their car along Beech Grove Road.
Authorities said that after the men returned to the Bells area, they bought window chalk and wrote racially motivated words and symbols on Cowarts vehicle, including a Swastika and the numbers 14 and 88.
The numbers apparently referred to the number of words in certain white supremacist and Nazi phrases.
The two were taken into custody by sheriffs deputies later that night and turned over to federal authorities.
It is critical that the alleged plot was interrupted, said James Cavanaugh, Special Agent in Charge of ATF in Nashville. We give credit to the deputies of Crockett and Haywood Counties. All forces of law enforcement have come together to stop this threat.
The two men are charged with making threats against a major candidate for the office of president, conspiracy to rob a federal firearms licensee and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
