| Progressive Education in the 1940s - 436 sec This video presents a positive view of progressive education although it begins with a parent complaining that children are not learning the fundamentals. Various educators are seen including famed John Dewey. One skeptic asserts that ideas similar to progressive education caused a collapse of the ancient Greek civilization. Current debates about educational techniques in many respects seem similar to what was occurring in the 1940s. Auteur : danieljbmitchell Tags:progressive-education 1940s John-Dewey | | William S. Burroughs on "Progressive Education". - 430 sec "After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military." ... William S. Burroughs.

William Seward Burroughs II (February 5, 1914(1914-02-05) — August 2, 1997; pronounced /ˈbʌroʊz/), more commonly known as William S. Burroughs was an American novelist, essayist, social critic, painter and spoken word performer. Much of Burroughs' work is semi-autobiographical, drawn from his experiences as an opiate addict, a condition that marked the last fifty years of his life. A primary member of the Beat Generation, he was an avant-garde author who affected popular culture as well as literature. In 1984, he was elected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Auteur : gregtl1967 Tags: William S. William Ayers, Ayers's group, The Weather Underground. Ayers and Dohrn went literally underground for several years until the statute of limitations was up on the crimes for which they had been charged. They re-emerged as - surprise, surprise - college professors. They had toned down their methods, but not their ideology.
It was from the home of the despicable Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn that the political career of Barack Obama was launched in 1995. Also in 1995, Obama was appointed chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was the brainchild of Ayers. Bill Ayers co-chaired that foundation's other key body, the "Collective," to shape its educational policy. In 1995, Obama had a pretty thin résumé, including a history of failed community organizing and a law degree with fresh ink. One wonders how someone with so little experience could have catapulted to a position of authority in such a well-funded organization. One thing is certain, however, the chairman of the board of the CAC would not have been appointed without the stamp of approval from Bill Ayers.
The CAC, we are told, is an educational organization formed to "help people." Actually, it is more of an organization formed to indoctrinate children into Ayers's ideas of "progressive education." While he was forming the CAC, Ayers wrote in his books, "City Kids, City Teachers" and "Teaching the Personal and the Political," that teachers should be "community organizers dedicated to provoking resistance to American racism and oppression." And he described himself as "a radical, Leftist, small 'c' communist." The CAC required that schools work with the "external partners" that actually received the grants from CAC.
These grants were distributed by the chairman of the board of the CAC, Barack Obama.
The external partners Obama funded included far left "community organizing" groups such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (or ACORN).
Obama's connections to ACORN are well documented, as he conducted "leadership training" seminars for them and many ACORN members served as volunteers for his early political campaigns. Of course, you may have heard of ACORN because they have been featured prominently in the news of late for shenanigans regarding hundreds of thousands of fraudulent voter registrations.
Oh, but pay no attention to that organization behind the curtain, either.
Two years ago, Bill Ayers sat for an interview with "Revolution Magazine", the self-styled "voice of the Communist Party in the U.S.A." In that interview, Ayers laments the weakness of his cohorts in "progressive education" for not embracing his ideas on indoctrination of students into the radical politics of the left: "That's one of the things that's actually annoyed me for about 40 years of being a progressive educator: the separation of the concept of progressive education from the concept of politics and political change. You can't separate them."
As the chairman of the board of the CAC, Obama handled the fiscal matters and funded Ayers radical left organization to the tune of some $150 million dollars.
Bill Ayers has never expressed remorse for his actions in the '60s. He has stated, as recently as 2006, that he and his Weather Underground cohorts "did not do enough" to advance their radical agenda. It is impossible to believe that after serving as chairman of the board for five years, after breaking bread with Ayers and Dohrn at their home, after allowing them to launch his political career, that Obama was unaware of their politics, their past or the agenda of the CAC.
Yet we are being told that these facts are nothing but a "Hail Mary pass" from the "desperate" McCain campaign. And perhaps that perception is partially legitimate because of the inept way the McCain camp mishandled this information, choosing instead to run a positive campaign and perhaps foolishly trusting the mainstream media to look into the Ayers-Obama relationship, because conservative pundits had been making it an issue since early spring. After all, one can only imagine the uproar if McCain's political career had been launched from the home of such a notorious figure. McCain's decision to sit on this information, and not make it an issue until this late date has been a grave disservice to American voters. But while McCain's timing is poor, the questions about Barack Obama's judgment and his personal associations are legitimate indeed.
There are many people and organizations behind the curtain of the great and powerful Obama. The American people should be paying attention to all of them.

An active citizen, says the prolific and influential Henry Giroux, is "somebody who has the capacity not only to understand and engage the world but to transfom it when necessary, and to believe that he or she can do that." In this provocative new interview, Giroux speaks with passion about the inextricable links between education, civic engagement, and social justice. Strongly influenced by Paulo Freire, the Brazilian scholar of progressive education, Giroux advocates for a pedagogy that challenges inequality, oppression, and fundamentalism.
